If you can't beat it... join it... and splash in it!!!!
With yet another rain day on our trip North the decision was made to suck it up... and join it! We bought the kids new raincoats (much to James' delight and my horror he now owns his first piece of Ben10 merchandise!) and off they went. The big kids enjoyed it as much as they did I think!!!
Some action footage of 2 kids who have been bottled up inside and were like frogs in socks, busting to get outside!!!
And the biggest kid who had to show them how it was done!!!
And then a slip ended the drippy trip but the warm spa bath waiting for them at home eased the pain!!!!

Zippy and Bucky - our favourite dolphins!
Off to the Pet Porpoise Pool this morning to see our favourite dolphins in the world AGAIN!!!!!
But first, we stopped in for a kiss from Abby the seal.
And then a kiss from Zippy, Bucky was looking on as his son did all the hard work!
James, and then Matty and Lucy fed Cindy a fish for breakfast.
And then we sat back to enjoy the show...
So we've used our money's worth to justify our annual passes. It's a really great place if you can afford to just spend some time interacting and hanging out with the animals when the show isn't on.
Some of our favourite moments were:
- walking past the seal enclosures where the seals dive out of the water and skid across their platforms before diving back in to their pools and frolicking around.
- after the presentations and after the novelty wears off for the majority of watching a dolphin swim past you along the edge of the pool there is the opportunity to quietly connect and play ball with the amazing dolphins. They contentedly pass a footy back and forth to their fans, so eager to play, and so happy to do the same thing over and over again until the fan loses interest. So special!
- and standing at the windows under the aquarium watching the Port Jackson Sharks and huge huge fish like the Cod! (It's not from the same place but check out an image of what the Cod looks like here.) There's something so graceful and majestic about fish swimming whether it's in a 20litre tank or on a much much grander scale!!!! The kids were mesmerised and could have spent hours there. I thought the fishy stench was too much so was happy to encourage them to explore the rest of the park!!!!
At the end of our visit today, as a special treat from Nanna, Grandpa and Jacqui, the kids were given a coin purse full of gold coins to spend at the souvenir shop... No surprises what they chose. And no surprises they haven't put them down since!
Lucy calls hers "Buckyzippy"
James is convinced his is "Zippy" and he reenacts the show almost perfectly, with Zippy's double somersaults and tail fluke walking, finishing off with a tail fluke wave to say goodbye.
And, after a big day the kids convinced Grandpa to have a 'tend sleep with them and their dolpins on the family room floor.

Lucy takes to the water!
Miss Lucy hasn't spent as much time in the water as James had by this age (she's usually still asleep when James goes off to swimming lessons on a Saturday morning!) but it was around 2 years of age we noticed James really taking to water and loving it.
Our first day in the pool this trip she was very hesitant and hip-hugging, only being happy to let her tight hold loosen on one big body to cling to the next as many capable and willing 'grown-ups' splashed and played water games with her.
Day 2 however, she looked at the big brother and thought... "Anything he can do, I can do too!!!" and she did (with a bit of help from the hand-me-down bubble!)
Off those little legs went!
We are often met with responses of "No sank (no thanks)" when help is offered. And she's tough to get out of the pool now too!!!!
She's so confident and capable after another 2 days of swimming that we're about to start to cut back the layers in the bubble!!! Amazing what a swim a day can do for a child's confidence in the water!!!!

After a few days of the pool teasing the kids from the backyard (and us holding the kids in quarantine to clear their chest infections!) they finally had their first dip! And loved every second of it!

A broken sister Kate
My sister Kate is wounded... A new year trip to Scotland ended on a sour note when she tripped up the last stair on a staircase and fell onto her foot - wrong side up. Snap, bang, crunch and her 4th and 5th metatarsals broke :(
She's off getting plenty of medical advice and is not in too much pain. Her special people in London are looking after her and bringing her food and company but in the meantime she is non-weight bearing, managing her pain, and pondering what her treatment may be while she waits to see the Orthopaedic specialists in Old London Town.
Fingers crossed for a speedy bone knitting Katiebabes... xoxo
