iPad, Summer and my hopes for the New Year!

With the arrival of my very cool
Birthday/Christmas present, my excuses for not blogging are running out! So my hope for 2012 is that I can blog at least once a week... It's a 3G iPad so I can really use all of that otherwise wasted time out and about telling you all about what's going on! Example: I'm sitting here watching James and our next door neighbor Cody play in the slip'n'slide and I can blog as I supervise! Awesome!

11/11/11 @ 11:11 - The Tinklers made the cut!!!!

We made the cut for the short video for 11/11/11 @ 11:11!
Of over 1200 images, they must have decided these cute little monkey's were truly Aussie! I'm tickled pink!!!! :)
If you can't tolerate watching the 3 minute clip then they're at 2:18... But the whole clip is pretty awesome and I think the whole project was too!

This is 11:11 11/11/11 from ABC Open Sunraysia on Vimeo.

Lucy girl goes to hospital

She was so brave!

She's had the operation to separate her tongue tie and the little piece attaching her top lip to her top gum (called a maxillary frenulum).

She ate dinner last night and had a drink of water as she headed off to bed at 7.30pm and that was it, fasting from midnight with no fluids after 6am. We woke her to go to the hospital so by 10:45 when we were nearly ready to go in, she was still happy, but getting pretty tired. Not even a gorgeous theatre hat could help!

The operation took less than 10 minutes from when I left her in the operating theatre to when Dr Tracey came and told us she was all done and fine... She said she might be a little sore and might need some panadol but she can eat and drink whatever she likes when she likes...

While we waited to get called back in to recovery, Matt and I were well fed and kept hydrated by the lovely volunteer lady at the hospital. We were only waiting about 20 minutes all up before we were called back in to cuddle our groggy little girl...

Sitting in the recovery area, Lucy guzzled her water and a bit of juice, and then laid eyes on our biscuits and cheese and she was into them like a flash and had polished off 2.5 bikkies and 3 slices of cheese before we could blink!

When we told the nurse she had eaten them, the nurse panicked a little, telling us that a toddler had done the same last week and due to the local anaesthetic in their mouths and the deadened sensation, they had bitten through their tongue and had to be whipped back off to surgery to repair the ripped up tongue!!!!

Fortunately for us, that wasn't to be our story. We're home now, Lucy girl's asleep.

We're looking forward to big brother James coming home too after a special big boys sleepover at Nan & Pa's last night. Lucy will be able to show him all the photos of her trip to hospital...

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

11/11/11 @ 11:11

At 11:11am yesterday, the 11th of the 11th, 2011, I took a photo of what we were doing... Or, more specifically, took a photo of what the kids were doing but think it's pretty obvious what I was doing!

We've sent the pic off to ABC Open to form part of the visual time capsule of what Australians were doing on 11/11/11 @ 11:11. It will be made into a video and will go live on their website on the 22nd November 2011. Hopefully our pic is included!

I think it captures what life is like with my 2 little possums pretty damn well!!!!

First nudie run

So it was 11am, at Soden’s Bistro, hanging out with the Mum’s group mums... One of the little girls comes and tells me that James and Austin were taking their clothes off. Then she brought me the jumpers and socks.

"Great." I said, "Thanks sweety." Packed the jumpers away and socks in the shoes. Nothing out of the ordinary really...

...

Then, she came back... “James and Austin have no clothes on”

And she was right!

So I just witnessed my son's first nudie run through a pub. Like most lads he had a partner in crime to nude up with, but unlike most it was 11am and it was in front of their mums. Hilarious!

Suze grabbed her phone and snapped a quick pic as they’d withdrawn to redress!

As I said before, hilarious!!!!

Oh, and we did have a little chat on the way home about where you can and can’t take your clothes off... ;)

Back to it?

I know, I’ve been missing.  Really missing.  For a long time!

Pretty much since we left for overseas we’ve been running the ‘life treadmill’ at a super fast pace while we’ve tried to do the essentials amid illness (all of ours), work, footy/netball, family and friends.  And to top it all off, our computer started playing up about 3 weeks ago and wouldn’t turn on, and testament to how flat out we’ve been, it took me 3 weeks to take it in to the computer place for the 30 minutes it took to service it and replace the power supply.  3 weeks without a computer in this house was kind of weird but great at the same time!  So the blog has fallen off the list of essentials and has been a little way down the priority list as far as non-essentials go too...

We’re optimistic that we’ll get back on top soon because there’s an end in sight...

After about 16 years playing senior aussie rules footy (including junior and senior rep sides, AFL draft camps, SANFL, O&M, a few premierships, 13 concussions (including 6 total knockouts), torn/sprained/broken body parts and countless moments where you cheer, sigh or cringe) I have it on good authority that the grand final in the Picola & District Football League (North West Division) will probably be the last game for Matty Tinks (for a while).

He’s passionate about footy, and passionate about community, so that makes him even more passionate about playing for his home town club Jerilderie, and to go out with a premiership win over Berrigan (arch rivals) this Sunday would be a fairytale end to a damn good footy career.  So cross everything you’ve got cos, selfishly, we want our Matty/Daddy back around a bit more, and if they lose there may be more temptation for ‘just one more year’ - for the 4th time ;) .

So ahead in the blog (well I’ll back date it so it will be behind technically) will be the rest of Europe (day 5-30 actually) plus a few stories about Miss Lucy and Master James and what they’ve been doing to amuse us recently...  You won’t believe it when you see Lucy, she’s no baby any more, she’s a fully fledged toddler who chats away about ‘gogs’ (dogs), ‘cows’ going ‘Mooooooo’, and still picks up ‘Miwwie & Mowwie’ (Millie & Molly her 2 soft toy pigs) and ‘Mummie’ (her dummy) and totters off to her room when she’s tired.

Will be back soon...

Photography!

Some of you may know that I started a photography course in early July. Hence the fact I'm blogging even less (if that's at all possible to get less than none!!!!) but I couldn't resist posting these few images from our first official photo shoot tonight. Our other 'first' shoot was rained out but we'll head to Beechworth to take some images later in the year...

An incense smoke trail, back-lit by a remotely triggered flash...

Then, with the editing power of Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS5 I converted it into my first piece of work for my assessment portfolio! I'm a bit excited now!!!!

After spending the first few weeks familiarising ourselves with the computer programs and our cameras, it was great to final getting our feet wet figuratively speaking. And we may get our feet a wet literally next Monday night when we do our night shoot around town...

Stay posted!!!!!

This is getting out of hand!

Imagine this...

James strutting around the footy with Pa Bernie, eating his $1 bag of mixed lollies and thinking he's the bees knees.

Bernie asked him in front of the crowded bar/canteen area if he wanted a drink.

He loudly responded... "Yep, I want a beer"

Bernie tells us the whole area erupted with laughter and there were a few calls of "explain that one mate!"

We're now wondering if he thinks that all 375ml soft drink cans are 'beers'... Better suss it out and correct that one!!!!

Kate

We've just been lucky enough to have Kate stay with us for 10 days of her 5 weeks home from London while she's been waiting for Queen Lizzy to give her the nod to continue her work for another 3 years (she's already been there for 2). Well she got the nod, so is back to London on Tuesday to continue to play, travel and explore, and work to fund it!

In typical style (which I'm intent on changing!) I hadn't brought the camera out so took it to the airport to snap a few shots in James' most loved precinct before she jetted off.

This was as close as we could get to a photo of the 3 of them outside!

A little closer...

Kate brought James back from the vending machine feeling apologetic about the fact that he'd selected a mountain dew can. James saw it differently though and loudly and proudly declared, "Mum, Kate bought me a beer!" Upon telling Matt last night about the beer incident, he tells me that James has been making a few references to drinking beer over the last couple of nights. Time to put drinking back into the closet I think!!!! And what oh what is he telling childcare!!!!!!!

At last, a photo of the 3, but Lucy looking away...

If they all look away does it look artistic or desperate...

Then, just as the plane was boarding, I set up a self-timer... not very well!!!!

A little better!

And then it was time for Katie to be gone

:(

After a good waving session, we set off for the car. And then, for the first time in his 38 months of life, James laid on a full-on, lay down on the ground, kick and scream, tantrum.

I let the moment pass (so I thought) and gently asked him to stand and walk with me.

He wanted to be carried. I couldn't fit him in my arms. He kicked and screamed some more.

Some well meaning older ladies offered some assistance to me by trying to give James a hurry along.

He was unfazed.

After what felt like 10 minutes (but I'm sure it was only 2 or 3) I gave the 'last warning' and then stood and marched off towards the car with undeniable intent! 20metres along I hear the thud thud of some footsteps and a little boy falls into stride beside me.

Back at the car I asked him what it was about (after the clear message of 'don't you ever do that again' had been imparted!). His response was heart breaking...

"I sad Mum. I wanna go and say bye to Katie again... I wanna see Katie..."

Thanks so much for spending a huge chunk of your time with us Kate. We love you lots and we miss you lots but, as James says... Katie's gone back to her house on the (com)puter...

xoxo
