Lucy girl goes to hospital

She was so brave!

She's had the operation to separate her tongue tie and the little piece attaching her top lip to her top gum (called a maxillary frenulum).

She ate dinner last night and had a drink of water as she headed off to bed at 7.30pm and that was it, fasting from midnight with no fluids after 6am. We woke her to go to the hospital so by 10:45 when we were nearly ready to go in, she was still happy, but getting pretty tired. Not even a gorgeous theatre hat could help!

The operation took less than 10 minutes from when I left her in the operating theatre to when Dr Tracey came and told us she was all done and fine... She said she might be a little sore and might need some panadol but she can eat and drink whatever she likes when she likes...

While we waited to get called back in to recovery, Matt and I were well fed and kept hydrated by the lovely volunteer lady at the hospital. We were only waiting about 20 minutes all up before we were called back in to cuddle our groggy little girl...

Sitting in the recovery area, Lucy guzzled her water and a bit of juice, and then laid eyes on our biscuits and cheese and she was into them like a flash and had polished off 2.5 bikkies and 3 slices of cheese before we could blink!

When we told the nurse she had eaten them, the nurse panicked a little, telling us that a toddler had done the same last week and due to the local anaesthetic in their mouths and the deadened sensation, they had bitten through their tongue and had to be whipped back off to surgery to repair the ripped up tongue!!!!

Fortunately for us, that wasn't to be our story. We're home now, Lucy girl's asleep.

We're looking forward to big brother James coming home too after a special big boys sleepover at Nan & Pa's last night. Lucy will be able to show him all the photos of her trip to hospital...
