Our weekend started extra bright and early on Saturday morning with a 6.30am departure - so that meant up and at 'em at 5.30!!!! James was a good little fella, sleeping most of the way to Melbourne and the zoo.
Arriving at the zoo, the line couldn't go quick enough when we knew the Carmichaels were on the other side of the gate! After a big enthusiastic hello we set off around the zoo, along with the thousands of other visitors who thought it was a great day for the zoo as well!
There were a few highlights along the way, the elephants were pretty awesome, and the orang-utans always have us totally enthralled... But watching James and all of the kids delight in the animals was the best.
After the zoo, we went back to the hotel to have a well needed rest, the adults as well as the kids!!! And while the Tinklers were resting in their room a special visitor arrived... James' NANNA!!!!! James was stoked and spent the next half hour high as a kite reacquainting with his Nanna and showing her around the hotel room (all 2 metres squared of it!).
Then it was dinner time. Off we set on foot to Lygon St... We had a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant and then an even lovelier icecream from a gourmet icecream shop! Yummo!!!!! We strolled our way back home after filling our bellies, all exhausted from a big day of zoo, walking and sun.
Leigh put Mum and I offside a little as we meandered our way back to the hotel... He said he was surprised at how safe the streets felt, and then noted it was probably because 50,000 Collingwood bogans were all at the MCG!!! Not funny Leigh!
But, we didn't let it affect us too much ;) and accepted it was probably a little bit of jealousy, so we let it go...
After putting James to bed, and leaving Mum in the loungeroom of our hotel room, we knicked off up to Leigh and Ange's room to watch the footy and catch up. It was great to spend some time with great company, watching a champion football team win a fantastic game of footy. Matt and Leigh had both written the Pies off at half time but I never gave up! ;)
We lasted til the end of the delayed telecast and then headed back to our room for a well needed sleep...
Sunday morning saw us take a quick spin around Queen Victoria Markets and then wave goodbye to Mum as she headed up to Bendigo for her Aunt's 90th birthday. We hopped into the car and set off to meet the Carmichael's in St Kilda for the markets and Luna Park.
A quick stroll along the markets and then we met up with a very excited family inside the Luna Park gates... I spent the rest of the day watching the clan spin, rock and scream on rides (as pregnant ones cannot ride) but I was able to accompany James on the Arabian Merry and the Carousel!
Good excuse really 'cos just watching some of the rides made me feel sick enough!!!!
Then that time came and we had to head off on the 3 hour drive home. What a shame that the weekend had to come to an end.
Thanks for a great weekend Ange, Leigh, Jenna, Locke and Zak! Looking forward to the next time!

Ahhhhhhh, 4 loads of washing done and blowing in the wind and I guess a reasonably tidy house!
