Picture this...
It's Saturday, 2pm... Matt lines up at centre-half-back against a pretty fit, pretty big dude... This dude thinks he's pretty good and trots all over the ground in search of possessions...
20 minutes into the first term, 'dude' runs into his back half to flood Jerilderie's forward line to prevent them scoring any goals before 1/4 time... Matt sees the opening on the other side of the ground to lead into a 'wide open space' to provide an option for the Jerilderie bloke standing just inside the centre square with the possesion... This should teach his cocky CHF a lesson...
(In slow motion...) Matt leads into 'wide open space'. Jerilderie bloke sees Matt and the space and sends ball on journey to same space...
'Wide open space' is seen by other players... Little Jerilderie bloke tries to hold big opposition defender out of former 'wide open space'. Unsuccessfully.
Matt takes screamer of mark going with flight of ball... Opposition players head collides with Matt's nose.
Result...
Don't know how fair it is that I made him let me take a photo of it... Oh well ;-)
He was stretchered off the ground in poor shape, covered in blood and feeling pretty unwell... His wife burst into tears when she saw the blood...
James slept through it all. Lucky really otherwise I'm sure some shrink would be asking him in 20 years time what his fear of football stems from...
