The Bunker Cartoon Gallery & PAT!!!!

(taken from their website)
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery in Coffs Harbour is Australia's first and only dedicated black and white art gallery exhibiting the largest private collection of contemporary cartoons in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Gallery is housed in an authentic underground WWII bunker that has been converted to a funky exhibition space.

Although we'd like to think we are cultured and all that, we actually had an ulterior motive for going along the check out the gallery this year...

Each year the Gallery award the 'Rotary Cartoon Awards', designed to recognise the best of Australian and international cartoons.

The winner of the 2010 Cartoon of the Year was our very own brother in law Pat Campbell ( pat.net.au )

His cartoon was the winner of the political cartoon section and was then pitted against the winner of the caricature section and the Manga section to decide an overall winner and the rest is history! You can view the cartoon here.

We missed seeing it in all it's glory on the walls of the gallery as they were currently showing the 'calligraffiti' exhibition.

Soon after arriving we asked the volunteer manager Geoff if he could help us find Pat's cartoon, he was very apologetic it wasn't on display due to the exhibition but said he could find it and bring it out for us. "I know exactly where it is," he said, "It's cartoon number 14,770 in our archives. I'll go and get it..." And he did! Now that's a memory!!!

He said Pat was the winner from a total of 509 submissions!

Well done Pat! Love your work!!!!
